Darn it! Stop the Waste

Skye Blue is owner and seamstress at Skye Blue Can Sew, a local
tailoring business. She will be presenting Darn it! Stop the Waste
Project Grow’s Learn My Art, Tuesday September 27th.

Skye Blue is encouraging the education and expansion of common garment repairs; tips and techniques our Grandparents used to keep quality clothing in good condition and wearable. This presentation will be centered around reducing waste and consumption by increasing popular knowledge of darning and garment repair. Participants should bring 1-3 knit items with holes smaller than a quarter.

About Skye Blue: Skye Blue has been sewing since she was 12. Her
grandmother was a great seamstress and instilled in her a love of
textile creations, diligent work and perfectionism. She received her
Bachelors of Fine Art from the Savannah College of Art and Design,
with her focus on Sculptural Textile Design. She opened Skye Blue Can Sew in 2007. Skye Blue Can Sew creates custom clothing for unique body types, as well as encouraging the reuse of old clothing and repairing worn or broken clothing. In this way, she hopes to help individuals feel complete, happy and beautiful in their custom garments. She also works to reduce landfill waste, prevent oil consumption through new textile creation, discourage clothing production in 3rd world countries and empower individuals through self-reliance by teaching old garment repair, alterations and general sewing.
